Baldur’s Gate 3 Reveal

Perhaps the most important detail they’ve revealed is just what classes and races we’ll be able to play as. Larian is incorporating trademark features of the Divinity Original Sin into their take on Baldur’s Gate, one of which will be the Origin system in which players can choose to follow the story of pre-made classes with unique backgrounds and dialogue options.

Here’s a list of the origin characters you can choose to play as and maybe recruit along the way:

  • Wyll – Human – Warlock
  • Shadowheart – Half-elf – Cleric
  • Lae’zel – Githynki – Fighter
  • Gale – Human – Wizard
  • Astarion – Elf/Vampire Spawn – Rogue

However, if you prefer to create your own character, this is a cRPG after all, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. Here’s a list of the different classes and archetypes you pick from if you create a custom character:

  • Fighter – Battle Master, Eldritch Knight
  • Wizard – Evocation, Abjuration
  • Rogue – Arcane Trickster, Thief
  • Ranger – Hunter, Beast Master
  • Cleric – Life, Light, Trickery
  • Warlock – Fiend, Great One

As for races, players will see a few returning classics combined with more exotic variants. These range from humans, elves, dwarves, and halflings to vampire spawns, tieflings, drow, and githyanki.

Larian is also making use of environmental factors in combat, just as they did in Divinity Original Sin 2. This means you can set things ablaze and even take off your boot to throw at your enemy. The combat will be turn-based, but it will be more fast-paced in that you’ll get to switch quickly between your characters as if they are all taking their turns at once.
